View one of the last remaining great estates of the Main Line on this first floor tour given by Joanie Mackie, the granddaughter of the Montgomerys, and author David Wren. A Horace Trumbauer design, the extended family has lived here since 1912. Playwright Philip Barry, a family friend, based The Philadelphia Story on members of the Montgomery family, Ardrossan and Radnor Township. Katharine Hepburn's character was loosely based on Helen Hope, Joanie's aunt. (2 Feet: Moderate Walking and Some Periods of Standing)
