Jordan: Oasis of Stability or Mirage of the West? (SL51808)
with Sean Yom
NEW Jordan is the runt of the Middle East. Compared to Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, it has the smallest population, scarcest resources, and greatest vulnerability to regional conflict. And yet this contrived Arab country, with a divided society and antiquated monarchy, has outlasted endless predictions of collapse. Jordan is an accidental crucible where titanic forces have created an important, if misunderstood, state that is now central to the Palestinian question and Middle East peace. Sean Yom, Assoc Prof, Poli Sci, Temple U.

The Lazaretto: Epidemics, Quarantine and Philadelphia (TT61062)

(2 Feet: Moderate Walking; Some Periods of Standing.)

250 Talking Art: A Nation of Artists Exhibition at the PMA and PAFA (TT11026)
with Cordula Grewe
NEW Across PMA and PAFA, A Nation of Artists appears less as a patriotic survey than as a contested question: who is allowed to picture America, and who is pictured in return? Prof. Grewe's tour follows the exhibition’s dual structure—PMA’s chronology and PAFA’s thematic encounters—to test the promise of national belonging against histories of expansion, inclusion, patronage and reinvention. We will explore American art as argument, inheritance, cultural unifier and unfinished civic work. (3 Feet: Extensive Walking and Lengthy Periods of Standing.)
